CLITURMED: study of the climate potential for tourism

A direct relationship exists between the meteorological conditions and the suitability of carrying out a tourist activity. An extrapolation of said relationship over a time scale enables us to assess how said climate indicators vary and, accordingly, how a certain activity may be affected by climate change.

Said project was developed in two parts. On the one hand, an individualised study was carried out regarding the climate indicators of 8 tourist activities, namely golf, hiking, cycling, sailboat and motorboat activities, football, cultural tourism and sun and beach.

By means of the use of regional climate models, a study was carried out regarding the trends of said indicators throughout the 21st Century for the Mediterranean Sea.
