MEDICANES: meteorological environments, numeric forecasting and the assessment of present and future risks

The purpose of the project has been to the characterisation of the meteorological environments which are ideal for the development and maintenance of Mediterranean tropical-like cyclones. Thus, the numeric forecasting thereof has been examined and improved by means of group prediction systems; post-processing techniques have been implemented in order to appropriately describe the probability forecasts, with emphasis on the extreme phenomenon and, finally, the risk of Mediterranean tropical-like cyclones and the uncertainty thereof has been quantitatively managed under present and future climate conditions.
