In Finland, a total of 437 new wind turbines were put into operation last year, which resulted in an increase in wind power capacity of 75 %. Finland now has 1,393 wind turbines producing a combined power of 5,677 megawatts.

Of the country’s total energy mix, wind power now averages 10 %, with figures only expected to grow as most of the turbines started producing electricity by the end of the year, meaning this will only be reflected in 2023 figures.

The positive trend for wind energy is also set to continue in the coming years.

By the end of 2025, it is expected that Finland will produce at least about 3,200 megawatts of new wind capacity, judging from the published investment decisions and projects under construction. By then, wind is expected to cover about 28 % of electricity consumption.

Foreign investments into Finnish wind farms are also very high, with completed projects raking in a total of some €2.9 billion in investments to the country.

Finland owns 47 % of the wind power it uses on its territory, statistics from the Finnish Wind Energy Association show.
