Project description

In order to accelerate the use of renewable energy in Africa and to meet future energy demand, the Africa-EU Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme (RECP) was established within the framework of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP).

During the project, the overall picture of the relevant actors (government, private sector, financial sector and donors) in the countries involved was analysed to obtain and document the necessary information on their markets, and their potential considerations, as well as the current activities of the private sector. In addition, constraints that might hinder the design of technical support to the private sector were identified, with the objective of being consistent with the needs of the RECP.

It also sought to determine whether a country was a suitable partner for the RECP, and thus to obtain the opportunity to establish formal collaboration with the relevant authority in that country.
